Startup Grind is a monthly fireside chat presented in partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs. Conway is one of 200 cities in the world with a Startup Grind chapter. Each month, the Conductor hosts a fireside chat with a local influencer/entrepreneur. To date, the Conductor has hosted Conway Mayor Bart Castleberry; Amy Fecher, Executive VP of Operations at the Arkansas Economic Development Commission; Earnest Sweat, California-based venture capitalist; Jeff Amerine, Principal of Startup Junkie Consulting; Jeff Standridge, Chief Catalyst of the Conductor; and Alison Williams, Chief-of-Staff for Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, among others.

About Hugh McDonald:

Hugh T. McDonald was named president and chief executive officer of Entergy Arkansas, Inc. on June 1, 2000 and retired May 1, 2016. 

Hugh joined Entergy in 1982 as an engineer at Waterford 3 nuclear generating plant in Louisiana.  Since then he has held various management positions in the distribution, transmission, customer service, retail marketing and regulatory business functions in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas. 

Prior to working for Entergy, Hugh was employed by Black and Veatch Consulting Engineers in Overland Park, Kansas.

Hugh is a past Board member of the United States Chamber of Commerce and past Board Chair of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, Fifty for the Future and the Arkansas Research Alliance.  He also served as a member of the Sam Walton College of Business Advisory Board and the UALR College of Business Advisory Council.

Hugh currently serves as Chairman of the Arkansas Career Education and Workforce Development Board and Vice Chair of The Nature Conservancy of Arkansas.  He and his wife also are reading tutors for 3rd graders at Stephens Elementary in Little Rock through the ARKids Read, grade-level reading program.

Hugh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from North Dakota State University, 1980; and earned his MBA degree from the University of New Orleans in 1987. 

Hugh and his wife, Michelle, have 3 children.
